Team Maryland forward and UNH recruit Casey Thrush was ranked 97 out of 210 skaters for the 2010 NHL Draft according to Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings. Thrush, a native Easton, Maryland, is currently leading Team Maryland in points with 32 goals, 42 assists, and 74 points in 46 games played. Casey was the only Midget AAA player in all of North America ranked for the 2010 NHL draft.

“I’m very excited,” Thrush said. “Deciding to stay home and graduate from my high school and play for Team Maryland again turned out to be the best decision I could have made. Our team is so good and the program just keeps getting better every year. It’s really amazing that two of us (former Team Maryland linemate Nick Sorkin) could be both going to UNH and possibly drafted into the NHL together.” In his three years with Team Maryland Thrush has developed into a goal-scoring power forward with an edge that is very attractive to the NHL.

“I’m so happy for Casey and his family. This is another great accomplishment what is going to be a bright future. Casey has worked extremely hard over the past three seasons with us and it is great to see his dedication paying off.” Said Team Maryland Head Coach and General Manager Jason Kersner. “I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and the upcoming off-season to help him further his development and raise the bar even higher—the best is yet to come.”

Thrush joins past teammate and friend, as well as future teammate at UNH Nick Sorkin, who is ranked 130 on NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings. Sorkin was Team Maryland’s leading scorer last year and is currently making his mark in the USHL with the Waterloo Black Hawks.

With the rankings of these two Team Maryland players in the NHL Central Scouting report, Team Maryland continues to further its reputation as one of the premier Midget AAA programs in the country. Team Maryland currently has three players that have signed tenders with North American Hockey League teams as well as many other players who will be signing with Junior A teams or committing to Division I colleges in the months ahead.
